I had boxes of M.D. mag's going back to the early eightie's and let my freind's have their pick through if you know what I mean, now I am kicking myself for it. Wish I had them all now.
And yeah I agree Dennis comes across as a TAD! arrogant in his interviews at times no doubt, there are a few guy's that seem to come across that way repeatedly like Bruford, maybe they are just real sure of themselves

Why not get them ALL?

I think it's around $200 for all 8 CD ROMs containing 265 issues over 25 years. Just going back over the record, book, and product reviews is worth it, much less the amazing archive of instructional material. There's basically Morello's Master Studies in there and every world beat imaginable. I used to cut and categorize them all...this is before PC's! Now it?s all there. Killer investment.

I have every issue of Modern Drummer kept painstakingly in order on bookshelves at home but it's a major pain to find select interviews with over 265 magazines to slog through. The CD ROMs have a search feature so I'm contemplating getting them just for that.

A friend of mine gave me some old modern drummer magazines. as i have only been subscribing to MD for 2 years, i have nothing with weckl, vinnie, chambers, Bellson, smith etc on the cover. he lent me those 5, ranging from '82 to '89. I was especially keen to read dave weckl's first cover from 1986. For me, as a big fan of dave and a young player myself, it was a fasinating read, explplaing how he grew up and moved to university and worked out practice regimes in the summer months consisting of 10-15 hrs a day!!!! and during term time no less then 6 hrs a day.
Upon moving to new york it explained how he began session work and how anthony jackson couldnt stop freaking out on his first gig with weckl and staked his prof career on recommending dave for every gig he could! and how john mclaughlin called him up and asked to to join mavishnu orchestra!!
the steve smith interview also in 1986 was also interesting.....and i think he has gone thru the biggest change in his playing. he said that during that time he only really practiced to get by, and only really started practicing once he left journey. i also saw a '86 steps ahead dvd (which i hated) but steve played sooo different. ugly to watch.....how he has changed tho!!!
and the chambers interview from '89 was just silly! it sounds the same as the interview he gave 2 yrs ago...he goes on "i dont practice anymore....cant do certain things anymore....need to go back to practicing"...yada yada, bla bla bla and that was in '89 when he was young! he comes accross as very cocky. still interesting tho.
and just the way the mag was in th eighties....Ron looked so young in his pic on the Editors page, and the drums and pedals at that time....jeff porcaro, tony williams an even buddy were still alive and talked about in the present! sooo interesting!
is there anyway to post some interviews on here from anyone who has the MD digital archive.....id love to read ANY weckl ones from MD from '87 to now.....
